Autodesk has released its September 2026 major product update for Fusion (v.2705.1.11), delivering a set of targeted simulation and automation enhancements that extend the platform's engineering analysis capabilities and programmability. The update is notable for bringing the Modern Results experience to two additional study types, graduating a key additive manufacturing simulation API from preview, and expanding the TypeScript API for add-in developers.

Modern Results Comes to Modal Frequencies and Structural Buckling

The headline simulation improvement in this release is the extension of Fusion's Modern Results post-processing environment to Modal Frequencies and Structural Buckling studies. Previously available only for static stress and thermal analyses, Modern Results provides a unified, interactive interface for reviewing simulation output — including animated mode shapes, cutting planes, comparison overlays, and automated reporting.

For Modal Frequencies studies, engineers can now animate each vibration mode, overlay frequency data on the 3D model, and generate structured reports directly from the results viewer. For Structural Buckling, the Modern Results interface displays mode shapes and load factors with the same interactive controls, making it easier to identify critical buckling modes and communicate findings to design teams.

Both study types require the Fusion Simulation Extension. The update aligns these study types with the rest of the simulation portfolio, eliminating the inconsistency where some analyses used the legacy results viewer while others used the newer interface.

MPBF Process Simulation API Graduates from Preview

The Metal Powder Bed Fusion (MPBF) process simulation API has moved out of preview and is now generally available for programmatic access and results display. This API enables developers and automation engineers to drive additive manufacturing process simulations — including distortion prediction and support optimization — through scripts and add-ins, without manual interaction with the Fusion UI.

The graduation from preview signals that the API surface is stable and production-ready. Teams running automated design-to-manufacture pipelines can now integrate MPBF simulation results into broader workflows, such as feeding distortion data back into parametric models or triggering downstream manufacturing steps based on simulation outcomes.

Expanded API and Automation Coverage

Beyond the MPBF API, the September update broadens automation coverage across several areas:

  • Process Simulation Automation: The Fusion API now supports automation of process simulation workflows, enabling scripts to configure, run, and retrieve results from simulation studies programmatically.
  • Drawing Automation: Smart Templates and Tidy Up operations in the Drawings workspace are now accessible via API, allowing automated generation of production drawings from simulation-validated designs.
  • Construction Geometry and Timeline Attributes: New API endpoints expose construction geometry and timeline object attributes, giving add-in developers finer control over parametric model state.
  • TypeScript API — General Availability: The TypeScript API has reached general availability, providing strong typing, local development, and debugging support for scripts and add-ins. This lowers the barrier for software engineers building Fusion integrations, enabling IDE-assisted development with type checking and autocomplete.

End-to-End Sample Project: Sim Racing Steering Wheel

To demonstrate how Fusion's multidisciplinary workflows connect in practice, Autodesk has added a new Sim Racing Steering Wheel end-to-end sample project to the Fusion Home and Data Panel. The project walks through mechanical assembly, Form modeling, electronics layout, injection molding simulation, and manufacturing toolpaths within a single Fusion project — providing a concrete reference for teams looking to integrate simulation earlier in the design process.

Performance Improvements Benefiting Simulation Workflows

The September release also delivers platform-wide performance gains that benefit simulation users: file opening and closing is up to 30% faster for large assemblies, and a 2.5× speed improvement in Section Analysis navigation makes it easier to inspect internal geometry and simulation results on complex models.

The September 2026 update is available now through the Autodesk Fusion desktop application. Full release notes are published at Autodesk Fusion Release Notes.
